Katrina

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 -- Buzzurro

You know what’s happening in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and other states.
I read, among other news, about companies donating charity in the relief effort.
Companies like Walmart, that gave $ 1 million. Walmart was among those companies whose shops were ransacked by looters. Now, it’s OK if you’re looting for food or clothes, if you’re starving or you don’t have dry clothes, or if you’re doing it for your beloved ones, but it’s another thing to take electronics, such as TVs and stereos, or steal from jewelry stores. That’s robbery, low-down dirty criminal act.

Thieves commandeered a forklift and used it to push up the storm shutters and break the glass of a pharmacy. (…)

Officials tried to balance security needs with saving lives.

“We’re multitasking right now,” said New Orleans Police Capt. Marlon Defillo. “Rescue, recovery, stabilization of looting, we’re trying to feed the hungry.”

Some experts predict that one million people could become homeless.
Nearly 5 million people are without electricity in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, utility companies said. Restoring power could take weeks, they warned.
Martial law was declared in the New Orleans area.

How come, when a disaster strikes other countries, the US are the first to help out, while if a disaster strikes the US, many people won’t give a damn. I know that the US is a rich country, this doesn’t mean that Americans would not accept or appreciate help from other countries.

I read about this:

The U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland — a capital at the foot of the Alps hit by flooding last week — said calls were rushing in from Swiss individuals and institutions looking for a way to donate to relief efforts.’We are getting calls from the Swiss public looking to express their condolences (and) people are also asking for an account number where they can make donations,’ said spokesman Daniel Wendell.

And, opposed to those who will express their sympathy for the victims, there will be those moonbats like the umpteenth Kennedy who blames Bush for the hurricane. Appalling.

I suggest all non-American readers to donate, for example, to the American Red Cross.

Italian Red Cross Deal With Terrorists Was Publicly Known Since November 2004

Saturday, August 27th, 2005 -- Buzzurro

As you know, the Italian Red Cross hid and cured terrorists: what you maybe don’t know is that this piece of news has been of public domain since November 2004, when it was published on book “Storia d’Italia. Da Mussolini a Berlusconi”, written by Italian journalist and TV show host Bruno Vespa. From this book, on page 696, it was written that 4 terrorists were surgically operated on by the Italian Red Cross, as a part of a deal with hostage takers to set Simona Pari and Simona Torretta free. The book above cited also states that the Italian Government knew about this deal.

Liking other cultures cuisines does NOT equal disliking Italian cuisine

Saturday, August 27th, 2005 -- J. Doe

A few days ago I told my father-in-law that the previous night my husband and I went to a Chinese restaurant and had Chinese food.
And his response? Not the expected ‘Was it good?’ but, ‘Don’t you like Italian food?’
Yesterday at work I mentioned to some colleagues ‘I found a good store that sells American food.’ And their response? Not the expected ‘Good for you!’ but ‘Why can’t you shop in normal supermarkets? Don’t you like Italian food?’
Why is it that when you tell an Italian that you like another type of cuisine, a non-italian cuisine, they get offended and assume that you don’t like Italian food?
In my case, I love Italian food. I love all the different sauces used on pasta, I love the variety of pizzas and I absolutely love the freshness of the salads, but I also love Mexican Enchiladas, Japanese Sushi and Chinese fried rice.
Why are Italians so closed minded to think that it has to be one type of cuisine or the other? Why can’t you like more then one?
Me being American, I am so used to eating Chinese for lunch one day, Mexican for dinner (with a fine Italian espresso and tiramisu for dessert), and then having a Vietnamese meal the following day. Nobody in the US thinks that I am putting down one type of cuisine by eating another. Why can’t I continue that type of diet here?
