LOL yeah yet another example of launching programs too early. Perhaps after a few more patches Vista and speech rec should improve but like everything with Microsoft it will take time.

Deborah:
the spell checker plugin official website is http://www.coldforged.org/spelling-checker-plugin-for-wordpress/ .
But beware, there is an issue with WP 2.0.

Actually, MS should have released Vista earlier (5 years to release it).
The big problem with Vista is compatibility.

Some examples (that I personally experienced):
Vista does not display .hlp files by design. So, if you have some documentation in .hlp format, you have to read it under a pre-Vista OS, or you have to find a .hlp to .chm converter.
.hlp files have been existing for 17 years. Why the heck MS removed the support to them ?

Vista does not include VB5 runtime DLL. It does include VB6 runtime DLL.
One could find, at least up to 2005, apps on the market developed with VB5. This means that one might have bought an app that is 2 years old that is not Vista compatible.
I know that VB5 is not supported anymore by MS itself, I know that VB5 DLLs are MS's property, and therefore legally they can dispose of them, and decide whether to include them or not in Vista, I know, I know, I know...
BUT it is masochistic from MS to harm compatibility that has been one of the strongpoints of Windows.

In a nutshell, compatibility is the big issue. Usability issues are less important, like UAC (that has been ridiculized by Apple ad and that is obnoxious at times, when it at times asks the user to confirm TWICE an operation: one can deactivate it), like Speech Recognition that gives hilarious results (as this post showed), like Control Panel in which many items have been renamed for no apparent reason but to add confusion (rule: if something is not broken, don't fix it).

Vista seems a big advertisement for competitors in the field of desktop OSs: (Mac OS + Parallels Desktop) VS (Ubuntu + Wine) VS (Vista + Virtual PC), all for running old Windows software.

MS releases this stuff too early. XP wasn't stable and ready till after SP2. I have Vista on a 'toy' machine at work, there just to play with. It's not compatible with what we user there either. But this OS is a huge difference than the previous OS releases. So is Office 07. That I HAVE installed here at home.

Your little spell checker up there is so cool. Which plug in is that, if you don't mind me asking?

That advertisement is funny. I've only see it on YouTube though.
I guess to mildly put it, we are not fans of Microsoft Vista since it not compatabile with so many softwares that we own, some were bought last year too.
