Chutzpah - Modern Definition

Monday, November 20th, 2006 -- J. Doe

Today I read an article on the internet that says that Iran complained to the UN that Israel has threated to bomb it.

The threats, according to the Iranians, were “matters of extreme gravity” and the U.N. Security Council should condemn them and demand that Israel “cease and desist immediately from the threat of the use of force against members of the United Nations,” Iranian U.N. Ambassador Javad Zarif said.
(but of course they can continue to threaten Israel)

Is this the same Iran who has threatened to “wipe Israel off the map” ?
Isn’t Israel also a member of the United Nations?
Is this the same Iran who doesn’t follow any UN resolutions anyway ?

Why is Iran crying to the UN about Israel wanting to defend itself from their own comments ? Surely if someone says they want to ‘wipe you off the map’ you have a right to defend yourself ?

It used to be that when people asked for the definition of Chutzpah, other people would respond that it is like a person who murders his mother and father in cold blood and then begs the judge to have mercy on him because he is an orphan, all alone in the world, and without parents. Now I think the definition will have to be updated to this one.

Iranians ask for Tolerance

Sunday, December 18th, 2005 -- J. Doe

If the situation weren’t so serious it would be almost funny.

Iran tells West to be tolerant of Holocaust views
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s denial of the Holocaust is a matter for academic discussion and the West should be more tolerant of his views, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
Ahmadinejad last week called the Holocaust a myth and suggested Israel be moved to Germany or Alaska, remarks that sparked international uproar and threaten diplomatic talks with Europe over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi defended the president’s remarks, which also drew a rebuke from the U.N. Security Council.
“What the president said is an academic issue. The West’s reaction shows their continued support for Zionists,” Asefi told a weekly news conference.
“Westerners are used to leading a monologue but they should learn to listen to different views,” he added.

Iran, the land with the intollerant mullahs who kill Muslims who convert to Christianity.
In this article Iran is saying the West needs to be more tolerant and to listen to different views..
I’ve heard it all.

Iran’s Nukes

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005 -- J. Doe

Yesterday Benyamin Netanyahu, a former Israeli premier suggested Israel should take an aggressive stance toward Iran,
read more here.

Iran was not happy with this statement and today warned Israel of “heavy consequences” if they do a pre-emptive strike.
More here.

In October, the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for the Jewish state to be “wiped off the map”.
Meanwhile at the UN, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is showing greater understanding toward the concern of Israel and the West about Iran’s nuclear program.
Read about it here.
Ooooooh. That makes me feel so much better. He says he ‘understands’ the fears of Israel and the West of Iran’s nuclear amibitions. That must be why he objected to any attempt to pass an IAEA resolution declaring Iran a noncompliant state, thereby referring the issue to the UN Security Council, which could impose sanctions on Iran.

Sorry, Mr ElBaradei, actions speak louder than words. Israel has to defend herself.
I predict, just like Nickie Goomba a scary outcome to this crisis.

Update on the Rally in Rome

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 -- J. Doe

Tonight in Rome in front of the Iranian Embassy there is a torchlight protest against Ahmanijad’s statement that Israel should be wiped off the map.
I was expecting maybe 20 people or so to show up, but to my surprise (happily I might add), there are hundreds of people at the rally. Many of them are carrying Israeli flags, and they are not burning them ! There are Jewish people, Catholic people and Muslim People.Italians and Iranians. There are center right and some center left.
The hard left and communist parties are against the rally because they say that Palestinian rights need to be addressed and there needs to be a 2 state solution. What they don’t seem to understand is everyone is protesting that Israel has the right to exist. There cannot be a 2 state solution if one state is wiped off the map !

Buzzurro’s note: I confirm, J.Doe looks astonished. She’s watching TV, and repeats, over and over: I’ve never seen so many Israeli flags in Italy.
